What To Do After Your Potenza™ RF Microneedling Treatment
FOR 24 HOURS AFTER YOUR TREATMENT…
- Avoid direct heat and sweat, including steam rooms, saunas, and exercising.
- Continue to avoid makeup on the treated area.
FOR AT LEAST THREE DAYS AFTER YOUR TREATMENT…
- Avoid topical irritants — these potentially include harsh soaps, medicated washes, scrubs, oils, retinols, scented lotions and peels.
- Avoid hot baths / showers, as well as swimming (in any temperature). When bathing, use cool water and gentle soap; pat skin dry with a clean, soft towel.
- Avoid scrubbing, scratching or shaving.
- Moisturize with over-the-counter hydrocortisone 1% mixed with either aloe, Vaseline® or Aquaphor®, up to three times daily or as needed to help reduce irritation or itching.
FOR UP TO TWO WEEKS AFTER YOUR TREATMENT…
- Avoid direct sun exposure and tanning beds.
- Apply sunscreen SPF 30+ daily, and wear barrier protection such as wide-brimmed hats, large sunglasses and breathable protective clothing when outdoors.
YOUR TREATMENT TIMELINE
So, what’s next? While the experience is unique for every patient, here’s what you can expect…
IMMEDIATELY AFTER
- Mild to moderate redness, swelling, sensitivity, and pinpoint bleeding in the treated area (normal!).
72 HOURS AFTER
- Initial redness, swelling and sensitivity begin to subside.
- Micro-scabbing (red, pin-point sized scabs) may form and feel mildly rough in texture.
4-6 WEEKS AFTER
- Side effects resolve and micro-scabs naturally slough off.
- Your skin is healed and you're ready for your next treatment.
- Skin may begin to appear firmer, smoother and healthier.
- Elastin and collagen production continue deep within the skin.
6 MONTHS AFTER
- Maximum skin rejuvenation results from this session are achieved.
- Skin appears tighter, smoother, and more youthful.
- In order to achieve and maintain optimal SkinFitness™ we recommend repeating this treatment every 4-6 weeks for 3-6 treatments, followed by routine maintenance treatments.

What to Do If You Have These Common Side Effects…
FOR REDNESS, SWELLING OR DISCOMFORT
- Apply over-the-counter hydrocortisone 1% mixed with either Vaseline® or Aquaphor®, up to three times daily or as needed until resolved.
- Apply cold packs (wrapped in a barrier like a towel) to the affected area(s), taking them on and off every three to five minutes for one to two hours.
- Avoid direct heat, tight clothing, and activities that cause you to sweat. When bathing use cool water and gentle soap.
FOR ITCHING
- Apply over-the-counter hydrocortisone 1% mixed with either Vaseline® or Aquaphor®, up to three times daily or as needed until resolved.
- Avoid scratching the area.
- May take oral Benadryl®, Allegra® or Claritin® (antihistamines available over-the-counter, liquid version preferred) as needed.
FOR MICRO-SCABBING
- These red, pin-point sized scabs are normal and part of the healing process.
- Avoid picking, rubbing or scrubbing the area; allow scabs to slough off naturally.
- Apply over-the-counter hydrocortisone 1% mixed with either Vaseline® or Aquaphor®, up to three times daily or as needed until resolved.
